Medal instituted in 1928.
Medal awarded to fighters who had joned the regular units of the Lithuanian Army or guerilla units in 1918-1919.
Medal was reinstated in 1995 and is conferred on persons who contributed to the establishment the Armed Forces of Lithuania and the strengthening of the national defence system of the country.
Medal was discontinued in 2001.
