Order of Merit of the National Civil Police

- Order is awarded in four classes: Gold Cross, Cross with Red Distinction, Silver Cross, and Cross.
- The Gold Cross is awarded to police officers who, as a result of their service, have demonstrated outstanding personal valor and have been killed or wounded; who, at the risk of their own lives, have performed service or an act of such importance as to enhance the prestige of the police and serve the interests of the nation, and whose exceptional qualities testify to exceptional merit.
- The Cross with Red Distinction is awarded to police officers who, in the performance of a service of manifest importance that involves an unavoidable risk of losing their lives, carry out actions clearly demonstrating extraordinary personal courage, initiative, and composure in the face of danger.
- The Silver Cross is awarded to police officers who have performed acts that, without meeting the personal risk requirement for the Gold Cross, constitute significant collaboration with the National Civil Police or possess, by their nature, such exceptional character or merit that they warrant high recognition and this special distinction.
- The Cross will be awarded to those persons who execute, direct, or directly collaborate in the success of a service that, due to its extraordinary difficulty and importance, has demonstrated relevant professional or civic qualities; who excel with perseverance and distinction in the fulfillment of the duties of their rank, in such a way that it constitutes exemplary conduct, worthy of being highlighted as extraordinary merit; and who carry out professional or scientific studies, or other outstanding achievements or work, that bring notable prestige to the Institution or benefit the officially recognized service.
