• Medal was instituted by Presidential Decree No. 236 of 12 January 1937.
• Medal was awarded to officers of the Armed Forces of the Republic who were on active duty on 4 September 1933, and whose subsequent actions had made them deserving of this medal; and upon members of the Armed Forces on active duty who had joined between 4 September and 9 November 1933, inclusive, subject to the condition established in the preceding paragraph. and to those who had manifestly, materially, and ostensiblely aided the Revolution of 4th September or its consolidation, or who in some way rendered valuable services to this cause between the aforementioned dates and who subsequently joined the Armed Forces.
• Sergeants' Revolt - was a coup d'etat that occurred in Cuba in September 1933.
