• Medal was instituted by the Senate of the Free City of Frankfurt on 30 January 1816.
• Medal was awarded to officers, volunteers and soldiers of the line military from the area of city of Frankfurt who were involved in the war against France from 14 June 1915 in the Frankfurt battalion.
• On 14 May 1916, at the request of the commander Colonel Schiller, a gold medal was awarded to the flag of the line battalion.
