Order was instituted on 15 October 1965.
Order is awarded to Venezuelans citizens for meritorious services to the country in the fields of education, literature, scientific research, cultural development, and the arts.
Order is awarded in four classes: Collar, Grand Cross, Commander, and Knight.
Andrés Bello - was a Venezuelan-Chilean humanist, diplomat, poet, legislator, philosopher, educator and philologist.
