Order was instituted by Law No.37/1994 of 2 February 1994 and restored in the current system of state awards by Law No.552/2008 of 6 November 2008.
Order is awarded to Slovak citizens for special merit for the establishment of the Slovak Republic.
Order is awarded in three classes.
Andrej Hlinka - was a Slovak Catholic priest, journalist, banker, politician.
