Medal instituted on 1 March 1952 as Matthias Rakosi Academic Medal. In 1958 the Presidential Council established the Academic Medal of Higher Education.
Medal awarded to students of universities or colleges, which gives excellent results or indicating outstanding knowledge.
Medal have three types (1952, 1958 and 1991).
