Medal was instituted on 25 April 1993.
Medal is awarded for merits gained in the fight against the enemy, for the liberation of the country and for the contribution to the construction and development of the Republika Srpska. The medal can also be awarded in peace for contributing to the general development and progress of the country, both to individuals and to institutions, companies and other organizations.
