Medal was instituted on 25 April 1993.
Medal is awarded for personal courage in the fight for the freedom of the country, where a high degree of self-sacrifice was shown. This decoration can also be awarded to a smaller unit of the Armed Forces of the Republika Srpska up to the level of a company - detachment, for exceptional collective courage with elements of self-sacrifice, expressed on the battlefield.
Milan Tepić - was a Major in the Yugoslav People's Army.
