• Medal was instituted on 25 April 1993.
• Medal is awarded to units of the Armed Forces that have achieved several significant feats in the armed struggle and made a decisive contribution to the victory over the enemy. In exceptional cases, this medal can also be awarded to the commander, under whose command the detachment was awarded the Medal of Petar Mrkonjic.
• Petar Mrkonjić - was a legendary hajduk.
