Vytis Cross

  • Decoration was first established on 30 July 1919 as the Cross "For Motherland" (Kryžius "Už Tėvynę"), but no such crosses were actually produced. On 3 February 1920, the name was changed to the Vytis Cross.
  • Decoration awarded in two grades: the First grade had the crossed swords, and the Second grade was without the swords. Each grade had three classes (the third class was the highest).
  • First grade awarded to officers and enlisted for the acts of conspicuous bravery conducted on the battlefield. Second grade awarded for bravery acts during the Independence War, other than those conducted on the immediate battlefield.
  • Vytis — the coat of arms of Lithuania.
