Decoration instituted in 1930 as For Saving the Dying Cross (Žūstančių gelbėjimo kryžius).
Decoration awarded to persons who, despite danger to them, performed acts of bravery in saving the life of other people.
Decoration was reinstated on 12 September 1991 as Life Saving Cross (Žūvančiųjų gelbėjimo kryžius).
