Order instituted by Decree 51410 of 14 February 1962.
Order awarded to Brazilian citizens and foreigners who have distinguished served to Brazil in the filed of international diplomacy, through commendable actions of charity, and consultation.
Order awarded in five grades: Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight.
José Paranhos, Baron of Rio Branco - was a Brazilian diplomat, geographer, historian, monarchist, politician and professor.
