Medal was awarded to officers and mans of the Triple Alliance troops taking part in the Battle of Yatay on 17 August 1865.
Medal was awarded in three classes: gold, silver and bronze.
Battle of Yatay - was fought between the troops of the Triple Alliance and the soldiers of Paraguay near Paso de los Libres.
