On 17 March 1981 the Governor-General of the Solomon Islands Baddeley Devesi instituted the Order of the Solomon Islands. Order consisted of three separate awards: Star of the Solomon Islands, Cross of the Solomon Islands and Solomon Islands Medal. Star of the Solomon Islands is the highest degree of the Order.
Star awarded to foreign heads of state and prominent political figures.
