Order of the Zähringer Lion

- Order was instituted on 26 December 1812 by Karl, Grand Duke of Baden.
- Order was awarded for civil and militar merits.
- Order was awarded in III classes: Grand Cross, Commander and Knight. Later Commander Class was divided into II classes. The Merit Cross Class was added in 1889. The oak leaves for a special achievement was added in 1815. The swords for military achievements was added in 1866.
