Medal was instituted by Decree-Law No.30 of 10 December 1979.
Medal is awarded to the soldiers of Column number 2 "Antonio Maceo" of the Rebel Army, who in 1958 participated in the offensive from El Salto in the Sierra Maestra to the former province of Las Villas.
Osvaldo Herrera - was a Cuban revolutionary.
