Medal was instituted on 12 December 1995.
Medal is awarded to military personnel of the Armed Forces, other troops, and military formations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as employees of the prosecutor's office, national security, internal affairs, and the penal system of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan: for skillful, proactive, and courageous actions in combat, contributing to the successful completion of combat missions by a military unit or subdivision, as well as in the fight against crime; for courage displayed in defending the state border; for meritorious service.
