• Decoration was instituted by the Senate of the Free City of Frankfurt on 15 December 1840.
• Decoration was awarded for faithful and unblameable military service.
• Decoration was awarded in four classes: gilded silver cross for officers (25 years of service) and crossses for non-commissioned officers and soldiers (25, 15 and 10 years of service).
