- Medal instituted on 17 March 1796 by Augustus III, King of Poland and Elector of Saxony.
- Medal in two classes.
- The circular medal bore head of King Friedrich August I facing right, circumscribed "FRIEDRICH AUGUST KOENING V. SACHSEN".
- On the reverse inscribed "VERDIENST UM DAS VATERLAND" (Merit to the Fatherland) within a laurel wreath, crossed standards and cannon imposed below.
