Medal was instituted on 26 September 1947.
Medal was awarded to officers and soldiers of the Royal Life Guards who were on duty at Amalienborg Palace at the hour of the death of King Christian X, as well as the personnel of the army, navy, police and resistance movement who participated in the guard of honor at coffin of the late king between 21 and 23 April 1947.
