- Medal was instituted on 11 March 1953.
- Medal is awarded to personnel in the Danish Armed Forces, who are not eligible for the branch-specific medals, for 25 and 40 years of nonstop consecutive service.
- For 40 years of service, the gold oak leaf clasp was added the medals ribbon.
