- Decoration instituted by Decree No. 6.795 of 17 August 1944 and regulated by Decree No. 16.821 of 13 October 1944.
- Decoration awarded to military personnel, regardless of rank, who performed individual acts of bravery or had made a personal sacrifce beyond the call of duty while engaging enemy forces (I class) and to soldiers and offcers who distinguished themselves in a collective action while in combat (II class).
- Decoration awarded in two classes.
- There are two types of cross.
