Medal was instituted on 13 April 1995.
Medal is awarded to military personnel of the border services, other military personnel and citizens in recognition of: courage and selflessness shown during the detention of state border trespassers; heroic deeds and special merits in the state border protection; skillful leadership of the border patrol's combat operations while protecting the integrity of the state border; high vigilance and decisive actions which helped apprehend border trespassers; active assistance to the border services in their work to protect the state border.
