  • Decoration instituted on 23 November 1801.
  • Decoration awarded to military chaplains for outstanding acts in wartime and for meritorious service in peacetime.
  • Decoration awarded in two classes: gold and silver.
  • From 13 December 1916, the cross for brave and successful conduct was awarded with swords on the ribbon.
  • Decoration awarded with red and white striped triangle ribbon for wartime merits and white ribbon for peacetime merits.
