Silver Medal of Merit

Medal was instituted by Prince Georg Victor on 26 September 1878.
Medal was awarded to civilians and soldiers of the lower ranks for special services. The military award is distinguished from the civilian award by the ribbon.
The first type of the medal has a smaller princely crown. Medals with larger princely crown were awarded from 1899-1918. Swords was added in 1901.
