Order was instituted on 7 July 1950.
Order was awarded to recognise outstanding leadership by military commanders on the field of battle.
Order was awarded in two classes. Later was added class for wearing around the neck.
There are two types of order. Type I - production of the USSR, type II - production of North Korea.
