- Order was instituted by King Abdullah I bin Al-Hussein on 22 June 1949.
- Order is awarded for military and civil merit.
- Order is awarded in five classes: Grand Cordon, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight.
- Abdullah I bin Al-Hussein - was the founder and ruler of the Jordanian realm.
