Order of Merit of the Hungarian Republic (1946)

Magyar koztarsasagi Érdemrend

Order instituted on 14 September 1946.
Order awarded to Hungarian and foreign citizens for outstanding services in protecting the interests of independent democratic Hungary.
Order have five classes and medal in three classes: gold, silver and bronze. From October 1947, the Large Cross on the Collar of the Order of Merit of the Hungarian Republic may be awarded to Heads of State. For all the time, only two ruling presidents of the Republic was awarded - Zoltán Tildy in 1947 and Árpád Szakasits in 1948.
