Medal was instituted on 27 May 2008.
Medal was awarded to servicemen of the border service of the Republic of Belarus (with the exception of military servicemen of fixed-term military service), who have achieved high results in their official activities; veterans of the border service of the Republic of Belarus, actively participating in the military-patriotic education of youth; military personnel of other military formations (with the exception of conscripts), officials of state bodies of the Republic of Belarus and other states, other persons who have made a significant contribution to ensuring the border security of the Republic of Belarus.
