Order instituted by the decision of His Holiness Patriarch Pimen and the Holy Synod on 26 December 1978. The new design of the order was approved by the decision of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II and the Holy Synod on 5 October 1999.
Order awarded to hierarchs and clerics of the Russian Orthodox Church and Local Orthodox Churches, representatives of heterodox Churches for church and peacemaking services; statesmen and public figures for their fruitful work to strengthen peace and friendship between peoples.
Order awarded in three classes.
