Medal instituted on 28 October 1816 by Duke Augustus of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg.
Medal awarded to officers, NCOs and men of Duchy of Saxe-Altenburg who participated in campaigns against Napoleon.
For officers medal was completely gilded. In the version for soldiers only the font is gilded.
