Medal instituted on 7 August 1888.
Medal awarded to the troops taking part in the several expeditions through the Cacho province between 1870-1884.
Medal awarded in III classes: gold, silver and bronze.
Bars were worn on the ribbon for participation in the Chaco expeditions of 1870, 1876, 1880, 1881, 1883 and 1884.
